Sarajevo Film Festival: Conversations from the Ground
[August 20, 2021] The festival just wrapped but our coverage continues! In this episode, Christina Zachariades is joined by Macha Tsarencov and Steve Rickinson to discuss their travels to Sarajevo, the atmosphere of the festival, and several documentary films that screened as part of the competition.

Christina Zachariades is a Brooklyn-based Greek-American researcher, filmmaker, and founder of Docs in Orbit - a transnational artist-led podcast that holds space for independent filmmakers to engage in dialogue about the works that move them and fuel their own creations. Christina holds a Master of Arts from the University of Texas in Austin, as well as a Master of Arts in Documentary Filmmaking from DocNomads. She was also a 2020 participant at UnionDocs Collaborative Studio where she worked alongside other artists and activists in media making to support ongoing political struggles.
Macha Tsarencov is a French artist and filmmaker based in Paris. She has over five years experience in editing on various promotional, commercial, documentary, fictional and music videos for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Hugo Boss, Gagosian Gallery, Perrotin Gallery, Petzel Gallery, the Food Network among many others.
Macha has a bachelor’s degree in Art History and English from the Institut Catholique de Paris, a private liberal arts university in Paris, and a Master’s Degree in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York City.
New to Bucharest by way of Amsterdam, Brooklyn, and a few other places, Steve Rickinson is the communications manager and industry editor for the documentary magazine Modern Times Review. He is also documentary correspondent for Romanian cinema publication Films in Frame Magazine. Prior to his relocation to Europe, he was the co-founder and senior editor for New York-based indie film magazine IndieWood Hollywoodn’t.
Not to be outdone with film, Steve is also a music journalist specializing in electronic and dance music.
